2016 ADEA Summer Program for Emerging Academic Leaders
The ADEA Summer Program for Emerging Academic Leaders was designed to provide early-career faculty showing great promise as potential leaders the guidance, insight and skills needed to build an academic career. The year-long program began in July with a highly interactive three-and-a-half day onsite session in Freeport, Maine. During the meeting, fellows engaged with senior leaders in dental education and worked in peer groups to discuss leadership development and other essential subjects in academic dentistry.
Following the July meeting, fellows interacted through online and virtual experiences with their peer groups and advisors throughout the year as they developed research projects that highlighted emerging trends and initiatives within academic dentistry, the profession as a whole and at ADEA member institutions specifically. The program will culminate with peer group presentations of their research findings during a dedicated session at the 2017 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition in Long Beach, CA.
During this dynamic education retreat, participants:
- Expanded their professional network of colleagues and mentors.
- Assessed and developed their leadership competencies.
- Learned more about timely topics and trends in academic dentistry.
- Created a career plan to focus on activities that will build their professional capacity.
