This American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Leadership Institute Alumni Association (LIAA) award honors the memory of John Edward “Jack” Bresch and the role he played for ADEA and its members, both in advocacy and leadership.

The ADEA LIAA Award to Honor Jack Bresch will be presented to a current ADEA member who reflects the attitudes, values and behaviors in advocacy of oral health care and dental education as exemplified by Jack Bresch. Jack Bresch displayed a lifelong commitment to advocating for health care reform on behalf of people in need. Jack’s interpersonal skills were demonstrated so successfully on Capitol Hill, first in his role as a Staff Director in the U.S. House of Representatives and later when he served as our Association’s senior executive overseeing public policy and advocacy. Jack Bresch was a mentor to many and had a gift for communicating in a manner that fostered collaboration and understanding.
A nominee must:
- Demonstrate advocacy for oral health care and dental education.
- Be an ADEA Individual Member.
All nominations must be received on or before Nov. 1, 2021.
Application Process Checklist
Applications must be submitted by Nov. 1, 2021, using the ADEA online application process.
Self- and peer nominations are accepted and should include the following:
- An abbreviated curriculum vitae, including educational background, academic appointments, honors and awards, a list of key publications and a list of career highlights.
- A personal statement demonstrating the nominee’s advocacy for oral health care, dental education and the values that Jack Bresch stood—for example, integrity, respect, relationships, professionalism and cooperation to name but a few.
The nomination committee, chaired by the ADEA LIAA Chair-elect, will review all nominations. A ballot will be sent to the ADEA LIAA Board for final selection of the award recipient.

Notification Date and Award Presentation
The recipient of the ADEA LIAA Award to Honor Jack Bresch will be notified by Feb. 1, 2022, prior to the official award announcement during the 2022 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition, March 19-22, 2022.
There is no monetary distribution associated with this award.
